It sounds and looks perfect. I agree, if it does not matter that the old display is destroyed, and/or a desoldering tool is not at hand, clipping all the pins and desoldering each of them separately is an option.Johanneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08796700991875418529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-91897909807316421532022-05-04T12:48:36.139-07:002022-05-04T12:48:36.139-07:00P.S. Thanks.
As a tip for anyone without a vacuum desoldering station to hand you might find it easier to do what I did: -
1. Cut the each of the pins on the old VFD using small wire cutters.
2. Cut through the double sided sticky foam pads as in the guide and lift the VFD away.
3. Remove each pin from the PCB one by one using needle pliers to grab the pin and a soldering iron to heat the pad from the other side.
4. Clean up the holes one by one with solder sucker and iron.

This does make the old VFD unusable but almost eliminates any risk of damage to the PCB.
Rjwnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-43624042902050454902020-07-02T15:13:00.103-07:002020-07-02T15:13:00.103-07:00I purchased a new display July 2, 2020 as specifie...I purchased a new display July 2, 2020 as specified above. The instructions said "Just grab the flat flex cable and pull it away from the connector." I pulled perpendicular to the circuit board when I should have pulled parallel to the board, both directions are "away". Perpendicular breaks the connector from the circuit board. All is junk now. I'll give the new display to whoever contacts me. abryhan@comcast.net1234personhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08861047944010429408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-43500115350122317972019-11-19T10:30:25.595-08:002019-11-19T10:30:25.595-08:00Hi, could be that older Squeezebox firmwares didn&...Hi, could be that older Squeezebox firmwares didn't torture the screens so badly with constant clock time / weather being displayed. I don't know, basically all VFD-type displays are similar in that their segments will wear down, the brighter the faster. Older SBs used character displays with the typical 7x5 dot matrix for each character whereas newer ones use a graphical display which invites to play around with and implement useless gimmicks. By the way, you can find a blog post dedicated to changing the display in the SB3 in this blog as well. Have fun! And that was very surprising to me since my 15 year old Squeezebox 2 screen is as bright and nice as when I bought it! Looks like older ones are better than the newer ones.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-12140231071795878852018-09-12T10:09:22.053-07:002018-09-12T10:09:22.053-07:00One thing you can do to help with the speaker wire...One thing you can do to help with the speaker wires is to pull off the round rubber part they go through. You can easily push it from the back of the Boom if you opened it up completly (I guess you can pull it from the front as well, I did not try) and that makes the putting back the connector much easier. After that, you just have to push the round rubber part back in placeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-70713755864917879182017-11-16T05:59:44.939-08:002017-11-16T05:59:44.939-08:00Please contact me at johannesfranke74@gmail.com if...Please contact me at johannesfranke74@gmail.com if you have any questions. I verified this. There is stock left of the G model so they will ship that until nothing is left, then switch to GB, I assume.
I am comparing both models here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107535-Good-news-ongoing-production-of-Boom-Classic-and-Transporter-displays

POA could mean "price on application" which usually means that you have to get your own price quote from them.
I can ship displays. If you are in the US, that might be the best chance as Noritake in the US focuses on big business and charges double the EU prices for displays. They are much more cooperative here in Germany. A MN16032G display is 40 EUR per unit, tax included, and shipping is 6.20 EUR for a registered parcel. Two displays are in my stock and another ten are on their way to me so I can send immediately.Johanneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08796700991875418529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5053304027701850753.post-32964029467663310542017-07-19T14:54:44.446-07:002017-07-19T14:54:44.446-07:00Is the date information of 2017-06-19 accurate for...Is the date information of 2017-06-19 accurate for the MN16032GB display?
